On Earth as in Heaven

Before Jesus teaches us to pray these words,
He lives them.

He is the only person
who ever did the Father’s will on earth
as it’s done in heaven—
fully, joyfully, constantly,
without hesitation,
without resistance,
without drift.

You may not know this about Jesus,
He didn’t obey the Father
by drawing on His divine power.
He obeyed by depending on the Spirit,
the same Spirit He gives us.

This is the mystery:
the life Jesus lived
is the life Jesus now lives
in His people.

He said,
“I do nothing on my own.” Jn 8:28
“I seek not my own will.” Jn 5:30
“I only do what I see the Father doing.” Jn 5:19

Heaven’s obedience
lived on earth
through Him.

And now,
heaven’s obedience
lived on earth
through us.

Paul said it plainly:
“For me to live is Christ.” Gal 2:20
Not effort.
Not performance.
Presence.

Christ living His life
in mine.

This is why Jesus teaches us
to pray for the Father’s will.
Not because we can accomplish it,
but because He can accomplish it
in us.

Heaven’s life
does not enter earth
through our strength.
It enters through our surrender.

Jesus lived the Father’s will
as a man filled with the Spirit,
and He fills us
with the same Spirit
so the same life can rise in us.

This is the wonder of the kingdom:
the Father’s will
done on earth
because the Son
lives in His people.

Not perfectly yet.
Not fully yet.
But truly.
Increasingly.

The life of heaven
taking root in the soil of earth
through the life of Christ.

This is why the prayer matters.
When we say,
“Your will be done,”
we are not asking for a burden.
We are asking for a miracle—
Christ living His life
through ours.

Heaven touching earth
through the obedience
He empowers.

Where do I need to stop trying
and start trusting Christ
to live His life in me?

I don’t want to imitate Jesus
in my own strength.
I want Jesus
to live His life
through mine.

Father, let Your will be done in me
the way it was done in Jesus—
not by effort,
but by Your Spirit.
I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
