“Beloved” Was a Royal Title

At Jesus' baptism,
the Father's voice thundered
from heaven:
"This is My beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased"
(Matthew 3:17).

We often hear that word —
beloved — as tender.
Intimate.
A term of affection.
And it is.
But in the Jewish world,
it meant more.

Solomon, heir to David's throne,
was called Jedidiah —
"beloved of the Lord"
(2 Samuel 12:25).
The name David itself
means "beloved."

So when the Father
called Jesus "My beloved Son,"
He wasn't just expressing love.
He was announcing
lineage.
Authority.
Legitimacy.

It was a coronation.
A declaration
that Jesus was the rightful heir
to the Davidic covenant.
The King not just of Israel —
but of all creation.

You may not know this about Jesus:
the Father's voice
didn't just affirm His identity.
It revealed His destiny.
