Jesus Didn’t Always Know Everything

You May Not Know This About Jesus
Jesus
If Jesus is fully God,
shouldn't He have always known everything —
at all times,
even as a baby in the manger?
And if not,
how could He truly be God?
This paradox sits at the heart of the incarnation:
full divinity meets full humanity.
It forces us to ask —
was Jesus omniscient
during His earthly life?
Or did He choose to limit His awareness?
The Gospels offer compelling evidence of the latter.
Jesus asked genuine questions.
“Who touched Me?”
— Mark 5:31
“What were you arguing about?”
— Mark 9:16
“Where have you laid him?”
— John 11:34
And most striking of all
was His answer
when asked about the return of the Son of Man:
“But about that day or hour,
no one knows,
not even the Son.”
— Matthew 24:36
These aren’t rhetorical flourishes.
They reveal
that Jesus didn’t continually access
the divine attribute of omniscience.
Instead,
He walked the earth
with real limitation.
But that doesn’t diminish His deity.
It deepens His humility.
He didn’t pretend to be human.
He became human —
fully entering the realm of learning,
development,
even unknowing.
You may not know this about Jesus:
unknowing was part
of His becoming.
And in that,
He offers us a profound gift:
the assurance
that our limitations aren’t failures.
They’re invitations to trust the Father,
just like Jesus did.
