He Provides the Greater, Then Promises the Lesser

While I was in high school,
my dad bought a ski boat
and docked it at a marina
on Lake Austin,
just fifteen minutes from our home.

He gave me the keys
and told me
he'd set up a charge account
at the gas station.
"Have fun," he said.

My dad's generosity
provided the greater gift — the boat —
and the lesser gift, the gas
needed to run it.

Not once did I climb into that boat
and wonder if I'd have gas.
The boat was secured.
The gas was promised.

Jesus speaks to that same logic
in Matthew 6:25–33.

"Is not life more than food,
and the body more than clothes?"
— v. 25

Hasn't God already given you
what's most valuable?

He redirects our focus:
"Seek first His kingdom
and His righteousness,
and all these things
will be given to you as well."
— v. 33

You may not know this about Jesus:
He offers the greater gifts first —
then guarantees the lesser.

He doesn't manage your anxiety
by minimizing your needs.
He frees you from worry
by anchoring you
in the generosity
already shown.

Don't panic about the gas.
The boat is already in the water.
