The Exodus Within

Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven." - Acts 2:2 You may know the stories. Moses at the sea (Ex 14). Elijah in the sky (2 Kgs 2). Pentecost in the upper room (Acts 2). But almost none of us see how those moments-centuries apart- reveal one story. Because what happened on Mt. Zion - Jerusalem - didn't begin on Zion. It began on another mountain, Mt. Hermon. Moses walked through the waters. Elijah rose through the sky. Two exodus movements - one through, one up. On Hermon, at the Transfiguration (Lk 9), a glorified Jesus stood between them. You may not know this about Jesus- Luke lets us hear their words: they "spoke about His exodus" (Lk 9:31) - His "going out," the deliverance He would accomplish in Jerusalem. For Jesus, that exodus was resurrection and ascension - out of death, into glory. And as Moses led a nation, Jesus would lead His disciples. And His disciples would lead theirs. A chain stretching across centuries, pulling people out of bondage into freedom. But the story turns again. Moses went through. Elijah went up. But on Zion, the direction changed. The heavens opened the other way. The Spirit came down. And the exodus moved inside them. The sky split above their heads. The Red Sea parted in their hearts. The power that carried Moses through and Elijah up now rested upon them. And when you see what they foreshadowed, what they themselves experienced, what's hidden is unveiled. Pentecost is the moment the exodus moves inside us. Reflection Question Where is the Spirit parting something in me - a fear, a pattern, a bondage - the way He parted waters for Moses and opened the sky for Elijah? What This Means to Me Pentecost shows me God's movements aren't just around or above me - they can happen in me. The exodus becomes a freedom I can live. Prayer Father, part the waters in my heart. Split the sky over my life. Lead me out of every place I've settled for less than freedom. Make the exodus real in me. In Jesus' name, amen.
