The First Miracle Was Unity

"All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer?" - Acts 1:14 Before the rushing wind of Pentecost. Before the flames that rested on each one. Before the tongues that spread the gospel. There was another miracle- quiet enough to miss, powerful enough to change everything. They stayed together. The same disciples who argued about greatness, who scattered in fear, who ran from the cross, who doubted the resurrection- they didn't drift apart. They gathered in one room, with one heart, and one desire. One accord. homothymadon. (homo = one, thymadon = heart) Not heartbeat as in cardiology. But a shared inner drive + Shared emotional energy+ Shared internal movement means- one pulse. This wasn't natural unity. Not sentimental unity. Not "we all get along" unity. This was the unity Jesus prayed for in the Upper Room- "that they may all be one" (Jn 17:21). And here, ten days before Pentecost, that prayer was already being answered. The first miracle after the resurrection was not power. It was togetherness. A room full of people who had failed Jesus- and failed each other- choosing to stay, to pray, to obey, to wait together. Pentecost didn't create unity. Unity prepared the way for Pentecost. Reflection Question: Where is Jesus inviting me to pursue unity as the first act of obedience? What This Means to Me: The Spirit loves to fill a united room. A humble room. A room where people stay even when it would be easier to leave. Prayer: Father, make my heart one with the people You've given me. Form in us the unity that welcomes Your power. Teach us to stay, to pray, and to obey together. In Jesus' name, amen.
