The Jesus Who Warms You Also Purifies You

"And Jesus entered the Temple, and His zeal rose like fire, driving out what did not belong." (John 2:13-17) Most people know He turned water into wine in Cana (John 2:1-11) and later overturned tables in the Temple (John 2:13-17), but few realize those moments were only days apart. After Cana, Jesus spent a short time in Capernaum (John 2:12)- His hometown on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee- with His mother, His brothers, and His new disciples. Just a few quiet days before His Father called again. Then Passover approached, and He went up to Jerusalem. But this time He didn't enter the Temple as one worshiper among many. He entered as the Son coming to cleanse His Father's house. To understand what the disciples saw in Cana and what they saw days later in the Temple, we need a clear definition of holiness. Most think holiness means purity. It doesn't. Holiness is like the sun- the blazing perfection of God's nature, the source of everything He is. Purity is like a ray of that sun. So are love, mercy, goodness, justice, wisdom, and power- rays He allows His children to carry because they are made in His image. Other rays belong to God alone- His omniscience, omnipotence, immutability, eternality. Now watch Jesus through that lens. At Cana, the sun ray was warm- holiness appearing as kindness, quiet, generous, overflowing joy. In the Temple, the ray was no gentle beam but a solar flare-holiness blazing as purity, driving out every corruption that kept people from meeting with God. Warmth and fire. Kindness and purity. Cana and the Temple. Two different rays. One sun. You may not know this about Jesus, but the Jesus who warms you is the Jesus who purifies you.
