You May Not Know This About Jesus: When We Consume His Words We Consume His Flesh. Used Day 43 John 6:51 "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." Jesus had just fed the 5,000. They wanted more. More signs. More bread. More proof He was worth following. So He gave them a truth so odd sounding, that many walked away. In John 6:53-56 Jesus said, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them." He wasn't asking for admiration. He was offering Himself as food. To be taken in. To be consumed. This wasn't cannibalism. It was communion. A call to ingest His life. To let His presence become our sustenance. Yes, the language was metaphorical- but not merely metaphor. Jesus was pointing to a deeper reality: The Word became flesh. And when we consume His words, we consume His flesh. We take Him in. We feed on Him. We let His truth nourish our bones. He was echoing the wilderness. Where manna fell from heaven. Where bread was daily, not stored. Where dependence was survival. He was echoing the prophets. "Your words were found, and I ate them." Not studied. Not admired. Consumed. He was echoing the Lord's Prayer. "Give us this day our daily bread." Not just provision. Presence. He was preparing the table. Where bread would be broken. Where wine would be poured. Where His body would be given for the life of the world. This is not a religion of admiration. It's a relationship of ingestion. We don't just follow Jesus. We feed on Him. You may not know this about Jesus? He didn't just call us to follow. He called us to consume.
