You May Not Know This About Jesus - He Provides the Greater, Then Promises the Lesser - While I was in high school, my dad bought a ski boat and docked it at a marina on Lake Austin, just fifteen minutes from our home. He gave me the keys and told me he'd set up a charge account at the marina gas station. "Have fun," he said. My dad's generosity provided the greater gift-the boat-and the lesser gift, the gas needed to run it. Not once did I climb into that boat and wonder if I'd have gas. The boat was secured. The gas was promised. So I enjoyed the ride. Jesus speaks to that same logic in Matthew 6:25-33. He urges us not to worry: "Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" (v.25). In other words, hasn't God already given you what's most valuable? Yet the more we consider all the things needed to sustain life-work, food, sleep, clothing, housing-the more anxious we feel. Jesus redirects our focus: "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (v.33) That's not a trade-off-it's a promise. The Father gives life. He gives a body. He won't forget to provide what keeps them going. You may not know this about Jesus: He offers the greater gifts first-then guarantees the lesser. He doesn't manage your anxiety by minimizing your needs. He frees you from worry by anchoring you in the generosity already shown. Don't panic about the gas. The boat is already in the water. Enjoy the ride.
