Why Jesus Taught Us To Pray To The Father

"Father? glorify Your Son" (John 17:1)

"In that day you will ask the Father in My name?
for the Father Himself loves you." John?16:23,?27

The hour had come (John 17:1)
The Cross cast its shadow
over the table.

And Jesus prayed.

A prayer-
spoken aloud
to reveal
what had been hidden.

"Father? glorify Your Son" (John 17:1).

Then His prayer widened-
to the men sitting around Him.

"I have revealed Your name to them" (John 17:6).
"Keep them in Your name" (John 17:11).
"Protect them from the evil one" (John 17:15).
"Sanctify them in the truth;
Your word is truth" (John 17:17).

Then Jesus said something
no one expected-

"I pray also for those
who will believe in Me
through their message" (John 17:20).

He prayed for you and me.

He carried us
into the last moment
before the garden.

And then He revealed
the truth almost everyone misses.
A truth so large,
yet intimate,
it's hard to believe
He meant it.

"Father,
the glory You have given Me,
I have given them" (John 17:22).

"The love You have for Me
may be in them" (John 17:26).

"As You are in Me,
and I am in You,
may they be in Us" (John 17:21).

This is the part
we read too quickly.

We treat this line as poetry.
But Jesus wasn't being poetic.
He was giving us His relationship with the Father.

The same relationship.
The same love.
The same glory.
The same belonging.
The same union.

And this is why,
from the beginning,
Jesus prayed only
to the Father.

This is why
He taught His disciples
to pray only
to the Father (Matt. 6:9).

Not because prayers to Him
are rejected.
Not because prayers to the Spirit
are unheard.

But because His mission
was to bring us
into His own place
before the Father.

To stand where He stands.
To speak as He speaks.
To belong as He belongs.

When you pray to the Father
in Jesus' name (John 16:23),
you step into
the relationship
Jesus has always had
with the Father.

You are praying from inside His life.
His love.
His union

This is the moment
where Jesus hands His disciples-
and all who would believe-
His place
in the Father's heart.

You may not know this
about Jesus,
but in His final prayer
before the garden,
He was giving you
His own relationship
with the Father.
