Why Did Jesus Seemed to Contradict Himself?

"Woman, what is this to Me and to you?" (John 2:4)

"Woman, what is this to Me and to you?" (John 2:4)

Yesterday we saw this wasn't a rebuke to Mary,
but the opening of a quiet conversation
between Jesus and His Father.

But there's a second line in that exchange
that we must not overlook:

"My hour has not yet come." (John 2:4)

If Jesus was speaking with His Father,
why did He say this?
And if His hour truly had not yet come,
why did He perform the miracle moments later?

That line wasn't a refusal.
It was the Son echoing the Father's "not yet,"
and then, in the next breath, receiving His "Now."

It's the tension before a race begins—
the runner crouched in the blocks,
muscles ready,
heart steady,
waiting for the crack of the gun.

In those seconds,
his hour has not yet come.

Then the pistol fires—
and everything changes.
The moment that wasn't yet
becomes the moment that is now.

So it was with Jesus.

Between His statement
and His next breath,
the Father spoke again.

Scripture doesn't record the words,
but Jesus' actions tell the story.

This was the Father's signal:
"Reveal Your glory now."

And Jesus said, "Fill the water jars." (John 2:7)

The water blushed into wine.
Glory filled the room.
And His disciples believed. (John 2:11)

This was the first discipleship lesson
Jesus ever taught His men:

The Kingdom doesn't move by urgency
or human pressure.
It moves by communion—
the Father's timing,
the Son's obedience,
and the glory that appears
only when heaven says, "Now."

Where am I resisting His timing—
either pushing past His "not yet"
or hesitating at His "now"?

It tells me I can't rush God,
and I can't lag behind Him either.
Obedience isn't just doing what He says—
it's moving when He says it.
If I learn to trust His timing,
I won't miss the glory He intends to reveal.

Father, tune my heart to Your timing.
Teach me to wait without fear,
to listen without rushing,
and to move the moment You say "Now."
