The Father Spoke to Silence Every Other Voice

The Father Spoke to Silence Every Other Voice

You May Not Know This About Jesus

Faith

Bill Perkins

Scripture:
"While he was still speaking,
a bright cloud covered them,
and a voice from the cloud said,
'This is My Son, whom I
love; with Him I am well pleased.
Listen to Him!'"
- Matthew 17:5

Peter was still speaking.
Still trying to make sense of glory.
Still offering plans, still filling the silence.
And then-God interrupted.

Not with thunder.
Not with judgment.
With a voice.
A voice that didn't explain the moment.
A voice that didn't answer the question.
A voice that pointed to Jesus.

"This is My Son?
Listen to Him."

The cloud didn't come to obscure-it came to hush.
To silence every other voice.
To stop the building, the scrambling, the speaking.
So that one voice could rise.

You may not know this about Jesus:
He prayed His way through not knowing what to say.

When you're overwhelmed by mystery,
or tempted to speak too soon,
do you let silence fall-or
do you rush to fill it?

It means I don't need to explain everything I see.
I don't need to build around every holy moment.
I need to listen.
When God interrupts my noise,
it's not to confuse-it's to clarify.
He points me to Jesus.
And when I hear Him,
I must let every other voice fall silent.

Father, I ask You to interrupt my noise.
Speak over the chaos.
Silence every voice in my head
that drowns out Your Son.
When I foolishly rush to build, apply the brakes.
When I scramble to explain, still me.
Let Your cloud descend-not to confuse, but to clarify.
Not to obscure, but to hush.
Let me hear the One You love.
And let me listen when I hear Him.
Dear Father, please graciously continue this work in me.
Train my ears to recognize Your voice.
Shape my heart to respond with quiet obedience.
I pray this in Jesus' name.
Amen.
