He Sees What We Ignore in Ourselves

He Sees What We Ignore in Ourselves

"Weren't ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?"

Luke 17:17

You May Not Know This About Jesus

Faith

Bill Perkins

I held the door at the grocery store.
A small courtesy.
The couple behind me
walked through without a glance.
No nod. No thanks.
I told myself not to care.

But I did.
And that bothered me
even more.

That night
I read Luke 17.
Ten men with leprosy
call to Jesus from a distance.
"Have pity on us!"

He doesn't touch them.
Doesn't come close.
Just says,
"Go show yourselves to the priests."
And as they walk,
they're healed.

Nine keep walking.
One returns —
loud with praise,
low to the ground.

Jesus welcomes him.
But He also asks:
"Were not ten cleansed?
Where are the other nine?"

Jesus doesn't chase them.
But He notices.
And He names
what we often spot in others —
but minimize in ourselves.

You may not know this about Jesus:
He sees what we ignore in ourselves.
And in naming the silence,
He invites us to face it.

Pass it on
