God's Not Disappointed with You

God

Bill Perkins

One night last year I was lying in bed when I sensed God say, "I'm not disappointed with you." The words seemed odd at the time because I don't recall thinking "God's disappointed with me." You know, like a dad when his son strikes out. But even if I hadn't thought those precise words, I knew in my gut I had let God down. I've done some bad things and not done some good ones. I'm sure his face fell as he realized I would never be able to hit a curve ball or knock it out of the park. So yeah, I knew I had let God down.

The Lights Turned On

And then God's Spirit turned on the lights and I realized, in the core of my being, that God is not disappointed with me. This realization triggered an amazing sense of happiness. God isn't disappointed with me . . . even when I fail. God isn't disappointed with me . . . even when I'm disappointed with myself.

A Discouraged Friend

As I basked in this truth, I thought of a discouraged fiend.

I climbed out of bed and sent him a five-word email: "God's not disappointed with you."

And now I'm sending the same message to you: God's not disappointed with you.

How Could I Know?

You may wonder how I could know such a thing. After all. I sensed God speaking to me, not you. Point well made. However, I can say with absolute confidence that God's not disappointed with you because of the promise he made in Zephaniah 3:17:

The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in his love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

Look at it this way . . .

God Celebrates You

A fan celebrates a game-winning touchdown. A parent celebrates a child's home run. A wife celebrates her warrior's return. God celebrates you. Take comfort in this truth: God's not disappointed with you.
