Giving Away Treasure

As we grow in the Lord,
He shows us truths we hadn't seen before-
treasures that steady us,
comfort us,
and draw us deeper into His heart.

It's natural to hold these truths close
as God uses them to shape our life
and strengthen our faith.

In the final parable of Matthew 13,
Jesus tells a short story
that reminds us these treasures
belong to God
and why He entrusted them to us.

Every listener in His day
would have understood the picture-
a simple story
with a profound revelation.

A scribe was a skilled interpreter of Scripture-
trained to find the treasures
hidden in God's Word.

A householder or steward
managed the resources of a wealthy estate.
He didn't own the treasure.
He guarded it
and distributed it
for the good of those in his care.

As disciples we are scribes
as we study the Scriptures,
digging deep for treasure.
We are also stewards
as we give to others
the treasures we find.
And we rejoice when the treasure we share
enriches those we love.

There are two kinds of treasures
the scribe discovers
and the steward gives away.
Jesus names them next.

"New and old" reveals how Kingdom truth works.
Some treasures are ancient-
rooted in the Law and the Prophets-
a picture of Jesus,
the true Treasure.
Others are newly revealed
through Jesus' teaching-
like the parables
and the Sermon on the Mount.
As disciples we must handle both.
We need to see continuity
and fulfillment-
what came before Jesus
and how He completes it.

Those who understand the Kingdom
are scribes-students of Scripture.
And they are stewards-
entrusted with God's treasures.

Understanding truth
isn't the finish line.
It's the starting line.
