Why Did Jesus Choose Judas Iscariot

and continued all night in prayer to God.

He called His disciples to Him;
and from them He chose twelve?"

After a night
of prayer-

After a night-
hours under the darkness
while the world slept
and the Son stayed awake.
A night of listening.
A night of surrender.
A night when twelve names
rose before Him-
on His mind,
in His heart.

After a night-
Of prayer,

not strategy,
not instinct,
not human wisdom.
Prayer that aligned the Son
with the Father's will.
Prayer that opened the doorway
for the men who would walk closest to Him.
Prayer that included
a name the disciples would never suspect.

And you may not know this about Jesus-
even His hardest choices
were made in obedience to His Father.

Judas.

Chosen
after a night
of prayer.

Chosen by Jesus.
Trusted.
Empowered.
Sent out to preach the kingdom

Heal the sick

Cast out demons

Trusted with the moneybag
John 12:6
Numbered among them
Sharing in their ministry
Acts 1:17

They saw a brother.
A friend.
A fellow worker in the harvest.

But in the background,
another story was unfolding.

Satan had left Jesus
until an opportune time-Luke 4:13

He stirred the religious leaders--Mark 14:1

He whispered into political fears--John 11:48

But he still lacked
what he needed most:

someone on the inside.

Someone close enough
to know Jesus' rhythms.
Trusted enough
to move without suspicion.
Present enough
to hand Him over
with a kiss.

And when the moment came,
Satan entered Judas
Luke 22:3
The opportune time
finally arrived.

And the doorway he found
was a man Jesus chose
after a night
of prayer.

And woven into that night
was something deeper-
Scripture Jesus knew
must be fulfilled.
"He who ate My bread
has lifted his heel against Me."
John 13:18
A prophecy He accepted
before the betrayal
and before the kiss.

No closure.
Only mystery.
A mystery Jesus carried
long before the moment-
and long before the man.

A mystery
He accepted
in prayer.
